Catch the ethereal sounds of the handpan, center stage! With its delicate and soothing tones, the steelpan-based instrument usually invokes a sense of meditative calm. Accompanied by various instruments like the cello, flute, ruan, trumpet, and the Chinese drums, Ondo! showcases the handpan’s versatility using rearranged and new compositions by Phang Jian Hao and HANDS Percussion Don’t miss this fiery and unique musical experience from 14-16 April at PJPAC, 1 Utama E.
SAKTI

‘Ulek Mayang’ (one of Malaysia’s oldest art forms) and ‘Puteri Saadong’ are treasured traditional Malay folk dances/tales. You fuse VIVA Vertical aerial artists and HANDS Percussion with those tales, and you begin to wonder … what the possibilities are. Our first engagement with VIVA was during the 16th Hua Zong Literature Awards in 2022. In SAKTI, a first full collaboration, we work to synergize our art forms to create our own magical interpretations of these tales. Excerpts from these stories will be danced above the stage with aerial acrobatics and grounded by contemporary music on the Chinese drums, percussions, gamelan and other instruments. Expect our drummers in a new challenge of expressing their artistry through skillfully choreographed aerial acrobatics (hanging from specialist fabric) accompanied by both rearranged and new Malay compositions.
Around The World In 80 Minutes

Irama Tanah Air (ITA) will take you Around The World through music. Just like reading a story, music takes you places and paints vivid stories and adventures in your imagination. Allow us to be your musical storybook and move you from one chapter to another. From Asia to Scandinavia and South America to the Middle East, we showcase music from countries like China, Japan, India, Peru, Russia, Africa and from Malaysia which includes a composition with Orang Asli origins. The ITA Ensemble are like an extended family of brothers and sisters. In 80 Minutes, they present a great collection of songs from around the world by their very own powerhouse of musicians, music educators and multi-instrumentalists bonded by their inherent Malaysian heritage.

RhapsoDrums was the 2nd concert held by Hands Percussion Team 2 in 2010. Established in 2005 the group has progressed tremendously and have matured into a professional percussion group. Comprising of part-time percussionists with full-time jobs, the dedication and sacrifice for their craft over these past 15 years have been incredible for the young group. They can now compose and choreograph independently and so brilliantly such as two key compositions for Kaleidoscope 6 i.e. ‘Concurrent Double-strike’ and ‘Woodland of Sound’. This has led to the upcoming launch of their very own identity, ‘RhapsoD in Drums’ in 2023 also marking their 18th anniversary with a concert of the same name. It will include compositions by the group, Jimmy Ch’ng, Olivier Tarpaga and others. Guest appearances include DeafBeat and children from Kampung Orang Asli, Batang Kali.
